What is the difference between Diver-Office and Diver-Field?
As the names suggest Diver-Office is an application for office use and Diver-Field is for field use.
Use Diver-Office to setup your monitoring projects and define the fieldwork that needs to be done, such as a site visit sequence, collection of Diver data and deployment of Divers. Use Diver-Field to carry out fieldwork and download Diver data. Once the data is collected, use Diver-Office to merge time series, barometrically compensate the Diver data to convert them into water levels. Finally, you visualize data including manual measurements and export data to MON, CSV or XLSX files for further use in third party applications.
Diver-Field assists you carrying out your tasks in the field and streamlines the workflow of fieldwork and support decision-making in the field. Diver-Field indicates the order to visit the monitoring locations and once at the site helps you to carry out predefined tasks such as downloading Diver datalogger data, collecting manual water level data and restarting the Diver.
What is the Diver-Tookit?
The Diver-Toolkit is the installation package that contains both Diver-Office and Diver-Field.
How do I find out what version of Diver Office I’m using?
In the main window click on Help and then select the About option to found out what version of Diver-Office you are using.
Database
Can I share the database on a network?
With Diver-Office you can share the database on a network. To use a database (filename VEI.db) in a folder other than the default folder (C:\ProgramData\DiverOffice) open the config file DiverOffice.exe.config located in the installation folder (by default: C:\Program Files (x86)\Diver-Office) with a text editor. Locate the key DatabaseFolder and change its value to the desired folder location, for example:
- <add key=”DatabaseFolder” value=”Y:\DiverData”/>, where Y:\DiverData must be a valid network location.
- <add key=”DatabaseFolder” value=”\\network_path\DiverData”/>, where \\network_path\DiverData must be a valid network location.
How can I backup/restore the database?
Diver-Office does not have a database backup/restore feature. The database file must be copied manually.
The database is a single file named VEI.db that is located in the database folder. The location of the database folder depends on the Windows version:
- Windows 8/10: C:\ProgramData\DiverOffice
- Windows 7/Vista: C:\ProgramData\Application Data\DiverOffice or C:\ProgramData\DiverOffice
Please note that the folder Application Data is a hidden folder.
To backup the database: Make a copy of the VEI.db file.
To restore the database: Copy the VEI.db file to the database folder.
If the previous steps did not work, please refer to the following document that outlines in how to backup/restore a Diver-Office database: Diver-Office Backup and Restore the Database
Importing Data
What data types can be imported in Diver-Office?
You can import the following types of data in Diver-Office:
- Barometric data from a CSV file.
- Barometric data directly from the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI).
- Monitoring point meta data such as name, cable length, top of casing.
- Diver data from *.DAT and *.MON files.
How can I import monitoring point meta data such as cable length in Diver-Office?
Click Import from the menu bar and select the Monitoring Points… option. A wizard opens and will guide you through the import process.
Can I import external barometric into Diver-Office?
Yes, you can import other barometric data in to Diver-Office. There are two options:
- Import data from a CSV file: In the main window click Import > Barometric Data…, select your CSV file and follow the steps in the wizard.
- Import KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute) data: In the main window click Import > KNMI Meteorological Data… and select the station of your choice.
How do I import KNMI Meteorological data?
Import KNMI (Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute) data: In the main window click Import > KNMI Meteorological Data… and select the station of your choice.
Exporting Data
How do I export manual measurements?
There are two ways to export manual measurements from Diver-Office to a CSV file:
- Per monitoring point: click on the node Manual Measurements in the project tree and then click the Export button.
- Per project: click Export from the menu bar and the select the Manual Measurements… option to export all manual measurements in the project.
How do I export salinity values from Diver Office?
Conductivity data from the CTD-Diver can be exported to salinity data by selecting this option in the export settings. The export settings can be modified during the export process or in the project settings:
- Click on the Edit button in the Export Files dialog or in the project settings.
- The Default Export Settings dialog opens.
- From the list of File Typeselect XLSX.
- From the data columns list select (at least) the options Time Stamp and Salinity.
- Then click OK and export the data.
What does the option 'Export on Download' mean?
In the Default Export Settings dialog there is an option Export on Download. Select this option to automatically export data (to the selected formats) whenever data is downloaded from a Diver.
How can I change the default export settings?
The default export settings can be modified during the export process or in the project settings:
- Click on the Edit button in the Export Files dialog or in the project settings.
- The Default Export Settings dialog opens.
Barometric Compensation
How does the barometric compensation work?
When Diver-Office is installed there are also some example files installed. You can use these example files for an exercise on barometric compensation. Click here to download a pdf file of the exercise.
Which manual measurement is used for barometric compensation?
The most recent (date and time) manual measurement is used for barometric compensation.
Can I use a manual measurement for more than one barometric compensation?
No, the manual measurement can only be used for barometric compensation if it falls within the time span of both the Diver and Baro-Diver time series.
However, once a barometric compensation has been done a «calculated cable length» will appear in the Location settings window. Check the radio button for «calculated cable length» field and the result is that initial manual measurement will be virtually used for any following compensation.
Can I calculate the depth to water from the top of casing as a positive number?
Yes, you can. If you choose the center option of the barometric compensation Water level with respect to top of casing the water level will be negative if the water level is below the top of casing.
If you want to have the inverse, i.e. the water level is positive if the water level is below the top of casing, you must set the top of casing value in the Location settings tab to zero. Then you choose the right compensation method Water level with respect to vertical reference datum.

- To add a new pumping test, click the Add New Pump Test button. The fields below will become active.
- Specify a Name, Description (optional), and Base Sampling Interval. Next, define the number of samples and number of intervals required for each step in your sampling method. Please note that the total number of samples must add up to the total memory of the Diver, or else you will be unable to save the sample method.
- Once finished, click the Save button. The sample method will now be added to the list of sample methods in the Diver dialog.
- To program the pumping test in the Diver (only Micro, Cera and CTD-Diver), open the Diver dialog and select the newly created pumping test from the Sample method drop-down list. Finally, click the Program button.
How do I program a normal Diver to be used as a Baro-Diver?
You can always change the type of the Diver in Diver-Office from Regular to Barometer, or vice-versa, by selecting the corresponding option in the Location settings tab. This setting is not programmed in the Diver.
I share one Baro-Diver with two or more projects. Do I have to download the barometric data separately for each project?
Yes, the barometric data must be downloaded in each project it is used.
After I programmed a Diver the information in the Diver settings tab did not change. Why?
The information in the Diver settings tab will only be updated once a Diver is programmed and started.
The Diver-Gate(M) does not work after I installed Diver-Office?
