Together with Evides Waterbedrijf, a Dutch water supply company, Van Essen Instruments recently automated several surface water monitoring points with telemetry in the Dutch-Belgium border region. The monitoring points are equipped with Diver-Link and now provide near real time water levels.
De Groote Meer lake, located on the Brabantse Wal, is one of the largest fens in the Netherlands. The water level fluctuations are substantial and in recent years the fen has regularly been depleted of water. This has an impact on the vulnerable ecosystem. Together with partners of the Covenant Brabantse Wal, Evides is working on nature restoration and sustainable management. For this purpose, good quality surface water is transported from Stappersven to De Groote Meer via a five-kilometer pipeline. Stappersven is located in the Flemish part of the cross-border park Kalmthoutse Heide. In that area there is a water surplus in winter. The telemetric monitoring points now give Evides an up-to-date insight into the water levels of both fens.
